European Commission launches new technical assistance project in Moldova

Technical_assistanceThe European Commission launched the EU-financed project "Technical assistance for sectoral budgetary support - bolstering the economy in rural areas". Project manager Philip Santes said at the inauguration festivity that the project will be implemented by the GFA Consulting Group (Germany) and by Oxford Policy Management (Great Britain) and will amount to 2.5 million euros, allotted for 24 months until late December 2013.

Among the main beneficiaries of the project are: the Moldovan Economics Ministry, the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the Finance Ministry and the Education Ministry. The project aims at elaborating better economic policies, both at state and local levels, bolstering business activities in rural areas, as well as making the country's public fiscal management system more transparent, responsible and efficient.

For his part, the head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel presented the European Commission's general approach to rural development in the EU and highlighted the need to make the economic growth an integrant part within the rural development. In the context, the EU official listed several economic programmes of rural development that are being implemented by the EU in Moldova. The ambassador noted that the "Technical assistance for the sectoral budgetary support - bolstering the economy in rural areas" is one of the most important programmes in this sector.
