Moldova reports record-high currency reserves

The Moldova's currency reserves have reached a historical record of 2.041.3 billion dollars, according to data the National Bank of Moldova made public on 10 January. The currency reserve assets saw a significant rise as an installment of 77.5 million dollars of a loan of 50 million dollars, approved by the board of directors of the International Monetary Fund on 1 February, entered the bank's account.

Other 27.5 million dollars will be transferred after certain procedures are met. Bank's Governor Dorin Dragutanu had previously said that the reserves will reach a new historical record of 2.06 billion dollars, after the IMF's means enter the bank's account.

The consolidation of the currency reserves is important in case of an eventual economic crisis, or in case the sovereign debt crisis and recession from the European Union aggravate.
