Moldova to benefit from 1.7-million-dolar grant within Japanese programme

2KRMoldova will benefit from an additional grant of 130 million yeni (about 1.7 million US dollars) allotted by the Japanese government within the 2KR programme of technical assistance for disadvantaged farmers.

The Japanese grant will consist of agricultural equipment: combine harvester-threshers, tractors, ploughs and other machineries, as well as spare parts.

In this respect, the sides will hold negotiations on the signing of an agreement on the matter, with Agriculture and Food Ministry Vasile Bumacov due to sign the document on the part of Moldova.

The 2KR programme was launched in 2011. Since then, Moldovan farmers have bought over 5,000 agricultural equipment units, of which 3,500 tractors and 600 combines. The Japanese assistance is estimated at 18 million dollars. The beneficiaries initially pay only 50 per cent of the equipment's costs, with the rest of the sum due to be paid back during two years after the acquisition. The proceeds gathered within the project are used to enhance the national agricultural production and to develop the Moldovan farming sector on the basis of the projects coordinated with the Japanese side.
