Moldova reports record-high currency reserves

BNMMoldova's currency reserves have reached a new historical record of 2.072.88 billion dollars, up by 32 million dollars in the first week of February, according to data the National Bank of Moldova made public today.

The currency reserve assets saw a significant rise as an instalment of 27.5 million dollars of a loan of the International Monetary Fund entered the bank's account. It was also due to the consolidation of main currencies against the US dollar.

The currency reserve assets increased by 107 million dollars in 2012. The consolidation of the currency reserves is important in case of an eventual economic crisis, or in case the sovereign debt crisis and recession from the European Union aggravate. The reserve assets went up by 248 million dollars reaching 1.965.300 dollars in 2011 against 1.717.690 dollars in 2010.
