Moldovan-Russian consultations held in Moscow

consultari_moldo-ruseMoldovan-Russian political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers were held in Moscow on March 6th. The discussions took place in line with the inter-ministerial plan of consultations for 2012.

The Moldovan delegation was led by Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Popov and Russia's by State Secretary, Deputy Foreign Minister Grigoriy Karasin. The agenda included issues of the Moldovan-Russian cooperation in the political, economic, humanitarian sectors, as well as Transnistria-related problems.

The officials stressed the importance of keeping the positive dynamic of the bilateral ties at different levels, which was recorded in 2011, and spoke in favour of continuing and extending the collaboration in the fields of common interest.

A special subject of the consultations was the preparation for an ordinary meeting of the joint commission for economic cooperation, due in Chisinau this spring. In the context, the sides highlighted a significant increase in trade exchanges in 2011 and the removal of obstacles to the development of the inter-state commerce.

The delegations exchanged opinions on the organization of Moldova's Culture Days in Russia next autumn. The officials also discussed interaction of both states within international and regional organizations, including the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The two deputy ministers approached the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and exchanged views on the recent round of five-plus-two talks held in Dublin. In particular, the officials emphasized the importance to promote confidence-building measures between the two banks of the Dniester.

In the context of celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and Russia due in April 2012, the two deputy ministers agreed on the organization of joint actions.

The sides decided to hold the next round of consultations in Chisinau in the second half of 2012.
