Moldovan deputy premier meets Russian special representative for Transnistrian conflict

On February 20th, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov met Russian special representative for Transnistrian conflict's settlement, Sergey Gubarev, the Bureau for Reintegration has said. The sides reviewed the latest changes that took place in the Transnistrian region, as well as the evolutions in the settlement of this conflict.

Carpov and Gubarev exchanged opinions on short-term prospects in the Transnistrian issue, on the political and security situation in the region, as well as on the positions of the foreign actors involved.

The sides expressed hope that the round of five plus two talks due in Dublin on 28-29 February 2012 will serve as a good opportunity to assess the real chances of advancing in the settlement process, with regard to the latest changes and to the stances of all the engaged actors.

Carpov said that the Moldovan authorities advocate the swift identification of a long-lasting solution to the conflict, which will ensure the region's stability and prosperity and will be in line with Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity, within its internationally-recognized borders. To this end, Moldova further relies on the support of its international partners.

The officials agreed to continue the bilateral dialogue on the matter between Chisinau and Moscow.
